In other words, rewards should be based on employees’ job performance and reflect the organization’s goal and service standard. Most rewards in the Asian culture, including Thailand, are in monetary form. However, because of the growing influence of the Western style of management, rewards in the form of recognition, such as being selected as employees of the month (or the year) with a certificate, are getting popular in Thailand. This kind of recognition can increase employees’ morale and make workers feel that they are appreciated and valued as a member of the organization, leading to job satisfaction and organizational loyalty. Panmunin (1993) reports that Thai hotel employees suffer from low self-esteem because the Thai caste system disparages servants as low caste individuals. The result of the present study seems to emphasize the importance of appropriate rewards for Thai frontline hotel workers, who may be often neglected and unappreciated in the caste system (high-power-distance culture), to improve their work morale. Next, this study demonstrates that training cannot be overlooked to satisfy hotel workers. Through training, Thai employees master the basic skills necessary to perform the daily duties of the position and develop job competence. In addition to the basic skills, more Thai hotels are offering training such as dealing with guests’ complaints. It is a new type of training that originates from the Western hotel companies. Typically, when Thai employees encounter disgruntled or difficult guests, they have supervisors or mangers handle the situation. This new training program broadens frontline employees’ responsibilities and teaches proper techniques to resolve conflicts and deal with problems immediately to build customer satisfaction. The result of this study seems to suggest that Thai hotel personnel are satisfied with this new, additional training. Third, this study implies that empowered Thai employees are satisfied and exert more positive service behaviours. This result contradicts the proposed hypothesis. Despite the vertical culture, more and more hotel organizations in Thailand are embracing the concept of empowerment by allowing frontline personnel to make more decisions to take care of in-house guests. Although empowerment is a relatively new concept for hotels in Thailand, the result indicates that line employees are quickly adopting such a work practice and are happy about it. In general, frontline employees are much younger than managers in Thai hotels. The young generation has been more exposed to the global influence of U. S. culture. Thus, young Thai hotel employees may regard a Western management practice such as empowerment highly. We also speculate that the positive empowerment outcome is attributed to the new additional training and the Western style of rewards. Research has shown that empowerment often involves training and rewards to be more effective. Another possible explanation regarding the positive effect of empowerment is the growing size of tourism. Thailand is one of the popular travel destinations in the world, and hotels are receiving large numbers of international customers. In Western countries, it is common to see frontline employees empowered to meet the guests’ needs immediately. Travelers, particularly from the United States and Europe may be accustomed to such a level of customer focus and expect Thai hotels to offer a comparable level of service. The management in Thailand is becoming aware of the phenomenon and therefore expending more effort to make use of empowerment to please international hotel guests. Finally, there is no significant effect of organizational support on hotel employees’ job satisfaction. In this study, organizational support focuses on help offered to frontline workers when necessary, appropriate job design, and support for frontline employees’ goals and values. This insignificant result may be partly associated with the high power distance between supervisors and subordinates. In the Thai hotel organization, managers are more likely to be valued and respected than frontline personnel, and Thai managers with authoritative leaderships are least likely to place a high priority on the well-being of frontline employees and assisting in their job. Although the organizational culture is changing slowly, and large Thai hotel companies are adopting Western management styles, it takes a long time for employee perceptions to change. Thai frontline personnel are more likely to recognize strong organizational support (i. e. , they feel they receive enough help at work, their job is designed to be rewarding, and their goals and values are as important as managers’ goals and values) in the future. In the conclusion of organizational behaviour, service quality initiatives such as rewards, empowerment, training, and organizational support have been a revolving theme tied with employee satisfaction and performance. This study presents how these initiatives work in a culturally different setting such as Thailand. The results of this study indicate that the service quality initiatives, which mostly originate from the U. S. or Western (horizontal) culture, are worthy of trial in Asian hotels (with a vertical culture) because such initiatives may help improve frontline employees’ morale and self-esteem and ultimately increase the overall effectiveness of the hotel operation. In summary, hoteliers should continue to increase decentralization of authority, develop attractive compensation, and improve frontline workers’ knowledge and skills through ongoing training. Birthday party planning Essay

To be able to have the entire event completed, I should be able to give a strong impulsive attitude in knowing the different issues that needs consideration in the occasion. These considerations include the wants and needs of the celebrant and the guests who are to be involved in the occasion. It could be observed that through the familiarity that I would have on the personality and the needs as well as the wants of both the celebrant and the guests invited shall help me in becoming highly acquainted within the system of celebration that needs to be processed in arrangement. More than this, knowing the celebrant had been a huge advantage on my part. It could be noted that our friendship has particularly made the process of knowing what he wants made it much easier for me to take the necessary steps to be able to come up with the right theme that fits his personality and would likely make the process more personal for the celebrant and his guests. My interest in the occasion as well made the process of preparing and completing the entire program much easier to bear with. Most likely, this made the process of coming up with the actual plan much effective for application. Considerably, the enjoyment that I felt in preparing the occasion’s plan contributed to the success that I have made in the completion of the said party. The involvement of Jerry’s girlfriend in the planning scheme actually helped ease the process of completing the occasion’s finalization. Her suggestions and the ideas that she has along with my thoughts about the theme of the party went side by side in making the whole occasion strongly manageable and enjoyable. Because of the age of the celebrant, a â€Å"kiddie theme† of birthday party is surely inappropriate. Likely, harmonizing the party celebration’s theme with the age and personality of the celebrant is indeed an important aspect of planning. Ladies & Gentleman Essay

The point was about the term â€Å"ladies and gentlemen. † It would be easy to think of upper class women in flashy dresses and extravagant hats and men in tailcoats and top hats when talking about ladies and gentlemen. However, one of my goals when using the terms is to make their definitions much more than mere appearance, if appearance at all. This modernization of the terms helps bring the definition into the current century and throw away the traditional and very close-minded definition. It is for this reason that I believe being a lady or gentleman is based on personality, how a person treats others, I speak for most people who use the term â€Å"ladies and gentlemen† in reference to a person’s conduct, not a person’s class, social standing, race, sexuality. Some, when faced with the terms â€Å"ladies and gentlemen,† will immediately assume the worst by using the outdated definitions. To discuss gentleman, as in reference to ladies is an entirely different topic but closely related . However to separate them is almost UN heard of in this society we live in today. Now we have a general idea of what a Ladies and a gentleman Are, let’s put them together to get a better understanding of â€Å"Ladies and Gentleman†. To take a look at them individually is one aspect to consider but let’s look at what a well rounded person is first and foremost prior to becoming a Lady or a gentleman. The simple fact from the ladies side was mostly about the dress of a lady and how they carried themselves in public. However on the men’s side of the scenario it was mostly about them being of a maternal instinct, and mannerisms of a lady one being polite, sincere and genially whole. However when it came to the Gentleman part of this survey it was all about having decent employment and being a good provider, and once again a good father figure. Funny as it seems this was from both the male and the female’s opinion. My age bracket was from one, my son who is twenty one, to my neighbor who is in their sixties. The ladies were a woman in their mid twenties to my mother in her late seventies. Their vocations were that of manufacturing to one of a professional woman a teacher. However it was an interesting fact when I asked these questions to my girl who was brought up well as she calls it blue blood, or if you will high society and her idea’s and experiences being brought up to be a lady. The fact that she was taught to courtesy in her early years and to have proper mannerisms of that type of upbringing to be able to be presented to other able blue blooded men at eighteen for a possible mate to ensure of proper breeding from their bloodline was somewhat a crazy response to my questions on being a lady or a gentleman. However to feel that a judgment is made upon you from whose family you were born into and how you were to dress and what reactions one would have towards you because of your nobility at birth and being told you believe this way or that way I feel is wrong. Therefore to be judgmental of the skin the dress and down to the language and how it is spoken to others and to deem their worthiness by a person’s size is a little farfetched but perhaps in that century the judgment rang true of a person’s actions be it male or female. To be a lady who plucks eyebrows or powders their face, or to be a wanton women to honest men or I believe the proper term here is harlot. Men of good posture and build for fighting wars or one whom is of a cowardice nature, but what of those men who flatly just did not measure up to the standards of a fighter for wars. In our society today we are somewhat powerless of what our physical stature is to become and therefore almost impossible to say what we will become and surely plays an important role in the attitude towards that.

A theoretical approach call the New Criticism/Formalism is said to be used when there is out of date text with no author or historical background.   It is misleading to read Greek or Latin text that is translated into another language word for word.   There is no way to trace the changes in myth over time because the text will not be chronological.   Late authors especially the Romans liked Traditional Biographical Criticism when they created life-records.   Traditional Biographical Criticism also works well for writings of political people who interpreted political stories in myth over time.   Many of these myths go unnamed and it becomes hard to analyze the author’s life in such cases. Folklore Studies and Anthropology explores unidentified works since in Folklore there are no individual creators of tales necessary.   Folklore studies and Anthropology work well when it comes to comparative literature approaches.   It is not limited to one version or text of a myth.   It works well when it comes to Greek and Roman magic or superstitions.   These studies are not good when it comes to complex symbolism.   However, it does show similarities between myths and legends. Earth Diver-Myths speaks of scientific evidence where the Earth has parts that are now dry and once were covered with water.   The myth says that a person dove into the water to retrieve some Earth.   The Earth that was brought to the surface is the same land we live on today.   There are other myths that say it was mud that was brought to the surface in a different way until it became the Earth.   The creation myth of Christians and Jews tells of the Earth once being covered completely by water.   The Japanese creation myth tells of muddy oceans covering the world at the beginning of time.   A GOD named Izanagi and GODDESS named Izanami were curious about what was under the Ocean.   Izanagi threw his staff into the ocean and pulled out some Earth which became the island of Japan.   Iroquois creation myth states that the island floating in the sky before the world was created had sky people who never died nor was born.   They never experienced sadness except for one day when a sky woman who discovered that she was going to give birth to twins.   She told her husband and this news made him very upset because they had never experienced this before and it did not seem possible.   He was so angry that he went to the center of the island where there was a big tree that gave off light over the entire island.   The husband was so angry and in disbelief that he tore down this tree tearing a big hole in the center of the island.   He then pushed his wife through the hole and she fell towards the water below.   There were water animals that existed on the Earth and saw the lady falling towards the water.   The water animals saved the lady and began to help her by diving to the bottom of water to get mud to build land.   The animals then took the mud and spread it on the back of a big turtle.   They continued and continued as it grew and grew becoming the size of North America. The idea of a personal approach to mythology happened in 1926 says Stanley Krippner.  Ã‚   However, you can make a strong case that the first proposed mythological foundation for an individual human experience was published a decade earlier.   C.G. That was a kind way of saying that it didn’t fit in a magazine filled with such lofty pieces as Ten Ways to Please Your Man and How to Lose 25 Pounds in Two Weeks.  A few years later, I decided to tackle the alumni magazine market. (My career to that point had focused on writing admissions and fund-raising materials for colleges and schools.) Id always admired CC, the alumni magazine of Tinas alma mater Connecticut College, so I wrote to the editor, complimenting her on the magazine, expressing my intention to write for the magazine and including the cancer piece as a sample o f my work. She immediately offered to buy the piece, and it was published in 2001.  Since that time, Ive written over 50 articles and profiles for about 15 alumni magazines.   A cover article about one woman led to a deep friendship and to my writing her
